How do I move a pet to a different client?

In Woof, open the pet on the family profile, click Edit, then Change on the Owner row and pick the client. Upcoming appointments, packages, notes and files go with the pet, while past invoices and payments stay with the previous client.

A pet ends up under the wrong client more often than you would think: a dog booked under a partner's name, a rehomed or fostered dog, or an import that created two records for one household. You do not have to re-enter the pet. Move it.

Steps

  1. Open the family profile of the client the pet is under today and click the pet's tab.
  2. Click Edit. The Edit Pet form opens with an Owner row under Status.
  3. Click Change and type the other client's name, phone or email. Pick them from the list. The current owner is shown but cannot be picked.
  4. Check the line under the row. It tells you exactly what will happen when you save.
  5. Click Save Changes. The pet disappears from this profile, and the toast offers Open to jump to the new owner.
The Owner row on the Edit Pet form after picking a client: Jane Miller, was Tom Miller, with an Undo link, and the line underneath: Bella moves to Jane Miller when you save. Upcoming appointments, packages, notes and files go with Bella. Past invoices stay with Tom Miller.

Changed your mind before saving? Click Undo on the row.

What goes with the pet

Everything that is about the pet follows it: upcoming appointments (same time, same groomer, same price), packages and remaining visits, notes, photos and files, report cards, vaccination records and recurring daycare rules. Reminders for its upcoming visits go to the new owner, and the pet appears in the new owner's client portal on their next sign-in.

What stays behind

Past invoices and payments stay with the client who paid them, on their Billing tab. The pet's name still shows on those invoice lines, so the history reads correctly from both sides. Messages, reviews and loyalty history stay with the client they belong to.

Two records for one household

If a client was created twice, move each pet to the record you want to keep, then set the duplicate to Inactive from its Edit Client form. The duplicate keeps its own invoices and stays searchable, so nothing is lost. The full walk-through, including duplicate pets, is in How do I merge duplicate clients or pets?.

When a pet cannot be moved

A pet marked Deceased stays with its record. Set the status back first if the mark was a mistake. The new owner must be an active client at this location; reactivate them first if they are not.
